Plot Bunny
The Plot Bunny had me work on the Ambergris novel outline on the plane ride home. Now I know who the killer is....always a good sign.

ETA: I need a source for info on Otter Shapechangers. Any ideas?

I admit I read very little UF or spend much time in that kind of plotting, but I'm not sure there is a source of info on Otter Shapechangers. Not unless there is some Native American lore I don't know about.

If it was me, I'm make it all up on my own. Unless it is a historical or scientific fact I do that a whole lot.

Having looked at what little the internet has to offer, I suspect you're right.

This isn't UF, BTW....don't rightly know what it's called, but one of the critiquers over at Codex told me the world-building is similar to Mieville's in that we have several races living together.... (Sadly, I have to admit here that I've never read any Mieville, so I have no clue how accurate that is.)

China kind of dwells in his own genre of SF. I don't know what to call it either.

And I'm so used to all the shapershifters being co-opted by UF that is my default now. I'm actually thrilled that someone is doing something new with that. Good for you. *g*

I understand about the assumption ;o)

This set in an alternate 1880s-ish Portugal where there are humans and seafolk (siriena--yes, that's Portuguese for mermaid, but not quite) and selkies....and otter folk. Oh, and it's a combination romance/murder mystery.

This is why I sometimes don't know where to market things. The plot bunny gives me bizarre assignments.

You might try Lynn Flewelling's Nightrunner books. A character in there changes into an otter in a number of scenes. Not exactly a race of shapechangers, but might be interesting.

Now that's a well trained plot bunny :)

I suspect that I'm the well-trained one here.

Couldn't find any otter shapechangers sites though I tried.

My first thought was Nightrunners, but I see somebody upstream has mentioned that.
