What's the difference between a bay and a harbour?
(Yes, I'm from the desert. I don't know. Laugh at me if you will.)
How far can a sailboat go in a day?
Where is Joaquim's office in relation to the other police stations? (Street names)
Yes, one more run-through on how Portuguese surnames used to be put together, to make certain I put Ana's surname together correctly. (It's a bit different now, with people using multiple multiple surnames...perhaps even all four. I'm not going there.)
Thanks heavens Duilio only has one surname.
I'm still hunting a map of the various parishes of Porto. Given the size of 1898 Porto and Villa Nova de Gaia, a lot of the parishes weren't in existence back then...and heavens, this is fantasy, but I'm trying.*
Most of the Wiki pages I need are in Portuguese. ::headdesk::
(I can--sort of--read Portuguese. Until I get lulled into the belief that it's Spanish...and then start translating things incorrectly. I simply hope I am never ever called upon to pronounce it.)
I've redone quite a bit of the city here, digging out most of the beach to make a larger harbour for the Port trade, drowning a lot of Gaia. I have to lie about how far it is to Madeira...either that or make up some islands that don't exist at all. Of course, I stuck in a couple of small bays as well, so I might as well just go for broke, huh?
*Listening to NPR this morning: Isabel Allende was on and talking about how she researched her newest novel for FOUR years, went to Haiti to research it and then took another year to write it. This would be nice, but I don't think it's practical for most of us. Perhpas that's why hers are 'literary' novels.
She has a lovely accent, BTW.
