Publication Process: Revision

Since I've turned in The Golden City, I've turned my attention to Novel 2: The Seat of Magic. I wrote this novel first, so it's already complete, but...

...every time we made a change to Novel 1, that created changes that would ripple through TSOM. A few plot secrets got pushed forward into TGC, meaning that the clever reveals in TSOM are now invalid. In addition, Duilio got to know some of the characters in TSOM better than he did before, so his discussions and attitiudes with/about them will all be changed.

And I figure that the first three chapters can be dumped. Yeah. That's the fun of hitting the revision stage. Over the hoidays I will be rewriting the outline of this book. FOr me this is an important step. I'm not much of a pantser, so I rely heavily on my outline to keep me on target.

Fortunately it's work that can be done amidst distraction, so I should make progress despite festivities. ;o)

I wrote Beyond the Gate before Finder, but as it turns out, it's third in the cycle. As I write The Shadows One Walks, things in Beyond the Gate are needing to be altered just a weeeee bit--but thank goodness it's not published yet, so I can!

Yep....book 1 has gone to proof, so there are no more changes coming. So now I can proceed with confidence...

i just found this on tumblr and thought of you

“But there are forces that don’t let you turn back and undo things, because to do so would be to deny what is already in motion, to unwrite and erase passages, to shorten the arc of a story you don’t own.”
— Salvador Plascencia

Hey, will you send me your e-mail addy to forward to the SRF Brigade head?

mari @ mariadkins.com :)

thanks.

She sent you an invite ;o)

I love what Maria wrote as well; you'll do just fine, I have complete confidence, too :)

I can be a bit of a pantser sometimes, but I agree, an outline is invaluable during the revision stage. Good luck rewriting, and happy holidays! :)

Thanks! ANd Happy Holidays to you, too!
